There photographs were all taken in Ayres Natural Bridge Park, Wyoming. The first five were taken on the August 6, 2002, and it was a generally overcast day. The shadows are weaker but the coloring of the rocks seems more distinct. The rest were taken two days later on August 8 in blue skies. I found this park to be a stunning place which is little known.
A marker near the site states that the bridge is 20 feet high and has a 90 foot span at the base. A trout stream flows beneath. Facilities are free and maintained by Converse County. Pets are not allowed.
The Oregon Trail passed through this area, and it was a haven for white settlers passing through Wyoming. Legend has it that an Indian was struck by lightning and killed while atop the bridge. After that, Native Americans would not ever go near the bridge or its surroundings.
