A few miles south of the Wyoming border, in the Pawnee National Grasslands, lies a hidden treasure: Pawnee Buttes. I have lived only 60 miles from here for six years, and never knew of its existence. And yet I found dozens of web sites about this place. I guess everyone knew about it but me.
These pictures were taken midday on March 15, 2003. The Pawnee Buttes are really only the two buttes shown in picture number 6, but the whole area is lovely.
These were taken in summer of 2004. In my previous trip, I was unable to hike to the tops of the bluffs and buttes because those trails are closed that time of year. This year I hiked up and had wondrous views. Unfortunately, I had camera trouble and couldn't get all the shots I want. Some day I'll go back again.
